Our program at a glance:
Aim: The improvement of the mental, social and physical health of seniors residing permanently in Non-Profit Care Homes (NPCHE), through:
Α) connecting the elderly with secondary education students on a regular basis, and
Β) connecting the elderly with university and college students to foster physical and mental empowerment through movement.
Beneficiaries: Seniors residing in NPCHE who participate in the program
When : 2024-2026
Where : Attica (Α & Β), Thessaloniki (Α)
In total, between autumn 2024 and spring 2026, the following took place:
- 86 meetings between 10 groups of school students and older adults residing in 6 long-term care facilities; of these, 42 were held online and 44 in person.
- 54 in-person meetings between 12 groups of students from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and older adults residing in 4 long-term care facilities, aiming to foster the physical and social empowerment of the older adults through movement.
The university students participated via the CIVIS Open Lab “Intergenerational Communities” — coordinated by NKUA and designed to promote intergenerational interaction and communication—while the school students came from 4 partner schools in Attica and Thessaloniki.
Following the conclusion of the meetings involving NKUA students, students from the SAEK of “Evangelismos” General Hospital also joined the activities with the elderly—outside the framework of the CIVIS program—thereby continuing the intergenerational meetings focused on social interaction and physical activity, which were concluded in June 2026.

Παραδοτέο CIVIS Open Lab
A deliverable of the CIVIS Open Lab, resulting from meetings between students and older adults, is the creation of a booklet by the organization Mission “ANTHROPOS” containing experiential and educational material; this booklet is incorporated into the “Guide to Good Intergenerational Practices”.
You can view the deliverable of the “Stronger Together: Building Intergenerational Bonds” initiative here.
